Going into the match, Côte d’Ivoire needed just 1 point to proceed to the next round. The scoreboard opened with Andreas Samaris‘ 42nd minute goal. Then in the 74th minute, Ivory Coast’s dreams were renewed with a goal by Wilfried Bony. During the extra time period, a controversial penalty was awarded to Greece and Georgios Samaras sealed the deal and propelled his team to victory. It is a heartbreaking moment for Côte d’Ivoire fans.
