There was palpable fear Monday morning as students of the Ogun State School of Nursing, Ilaro in the Yewa South local government area of the state ran helter-skelter after receiving news of an impending bomb blast.
It was gathered that unknown persons had gone to write boldly in front of the school that all the students must leave the school premises as insurgents will be striking tonight in the school.
According to one of the students, who pleaded anonymity, most of the students, upon getting the information have left the town for their various homes.
It was gathered that the notice read,”Bomb in rampage. You should leave the school before 12:00 as we are going to throw bomb by then”
Most of the students who spoke with newsmen confirmed the incident but pleaded to our newsmen not to write their names in print.
One of the students, who simply identified herself as ‘Daz’, explained that the students did not want to take any risk following the threat by unknown persons, noting that, in every rumour, there is an iota of truth”.
According to her: “We don’t want to be caught unaware, no one can say for now if its true. It is better we heed to the advice for now and put our nose on the ground to see that there is no problem before we return to school.
“Though, the school authority has not taken any categorical step about the matter, the Chibok experience is there for us to learn from, so we are not bothered about whether they act or not, we have decided to leave.
“Also, our hostel fence was demolished and no one is saying anything about that. Now, we have been exposed to a very high risk, anybody cannot just enter our hostel and do whatever he or she likes and move out without questioning.
“We have reported to the school authority but it seems they are not ready to do anything about that for now, so with the latest bomb information, I’m on my way to Lagos to meet my family until I got positive news that all is well,” she stated.
It was later gathered that some of the students had gone to the Ilato Police station this morning to lodge complain and the DPO has ordered some policemen to follow them for on the spot assessment and to investigate the matter very well.
