Kwankwaso wins senatorial seat in Kano

Despite last minute efforts to woo voters in Kano, the All Progressive Congress candidates in Kano overwhelmed the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate and House of Representatives candidates, as they clinched all positions at stake in last Saturday’s general polls in the state.
Also, the APC’s presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), dazzled the PDP in Kano, polling 1, 903, 999 votes against the 215,779 votes recorded by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso secured a seat at the Senate, garnering 758, 383 votes to defeat serving Senator Bashir Lado of the PDP, who polled 205, 809 votes in the Kano Central senatorial district contest.
In Kano North, ex-House of Representatives member, Alhaji Barau Jubril, scored 381,393 votes to floor the Senate Majority Whip, Senator Bello Gwarzo, who has been in the Senate since 1999. Gwarzo suffered a defeat as he scored 107, 845 votes. In Kano South, Kabiru Gaya garnered 498,528 to retain his seat, as he defeated the former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs under Malam Ibrahim Shekarau’s tenure, Alhaji Abdullahi Rogo, who scored 145,923 votes.
In the House of Representatives contest, the entire APC candidates defeated their opponents from the PDP with wide margins, including a former Chairman of the Ad-hoc House Committee on oil subsidy, Farouk Lawan.
