Three Students Shot As Gunmen Invade ESUT Hostel

Suspected armed robbers shot and wounded three students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Agbani after invading their hostel on Friday.
The students shot at the Unique Hostel in the school are said to be undergoing treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu.
Two of the victims are undergoing surgery at the hospital while efforts were being made to contact their parents.
The father of the third victim said his son was undergoing surgery at the hospital.
According to him, he was shot in the stomach, with some bullets lodged in his abdomen which doctors were battling to remove.
The hostel where the incident occured and other hostels on the campus had since been placed under security watch as plain-clothes policemen were said to have been deployed at strategic places, as the gunmen are suspected to be cultists.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the attack.
“From what we gathered when the gunmen attacked some students at the ESUT Unique Lodge, which is mainly Boys Hostel, there was a stiff resistance by the students who succeeded in arresting one of the gunmen.
“The arrested gunman alerted his armed colleagues who returned to the hostel and began shooting indiscriminately during which three of the students were shot and wounded,” said Amaraizu.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the gunmen could be “student-robbers”. He however gave assurance that the police would do everything to get to the root of the matter
