I’ll restructure the army, police, says Buhari
General Muhammadu Buhari
The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, has promised to restructure the Nigeria Army and Police, if elected.
Buhari made the promise on Thursday in Gusau at the inauguration of his campaign.
He said that his plan, if materialised, would boost the efforts of the two security institutions to battle insurgency with renewed vigour.
Buahri said that the need to restructure the army and police became necessary because the enemies had become more and highly sophisticated in the use of weapons.
“Our Army and Police will be highly equipped with all the required weapons, educated and uneducated youths will be employed through different programmes that will be created by our administration.
“We will rebuild our educational system and employ youths not on sentiment and god-fatherism.
‘We will as well find ways of restrengthening the country’s economy.”
He called on the youth to remain vigilant but maintain peace during and after the elections so as to ensure free, fair and credible elections in the country.
NAN reports that chieftains of the party, including its National Chairman, Mr John Oyegun, and Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Buhari’s running mate, attended the occasion.
Others were Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Zamfara Governor, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yar,i and Senator representing Zamfara-West, Alhaji Ahmad Yarima, among others.

The youths, whose source of grievances could not be immediately ascertained, destroyed some of the canopies and plastic chairs at the Ibrahim Babangida Square, Venue of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign rally in Bauchi.
The youths, this morning attacked PDP campaign delegates, including the Minister of the FCT Senator Bala Mohammed, with stones, slippers, hammers, sachet water and other objects at the party’s presidential campaign rally which held at the Ibrahim Babangida square in Bauchi the state capital.
According to reports, the youths arrived the venue of the rally singing their support for GEJ but immediately he and his entourage arrived, they started stoning and attacking members of the party.
They destroyed canopies and began chanting songs in support of Gen Buhari. The Police detached to the stadium found it hard to disperse them as they were large in number. FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, was stoned with sachet water while making his speech at the event.
The Minister in the course of his speech pleaded with President Jonathan and other party members not to take the embarrassment seriously as it was part of politics, stating that attack by the youths was the works of the opposition. Others at the podium had to dodge so as not to get hit with the different items thrown. When the Minister shouted “Nigeria”, the crowd shouted back “sai Buhari”, “sai Baba Buhari”, others chanted “Bama yi,” “Bama yi”, meaning we don’t support PDP.
All throughout the rally, which was very brief, youths chanted their support for the opposition APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen Muhammad Buhari, saying “Nigeria, sai Buhari.”
PDP plots to stone Buhari whenever its rally holds in Ondo – APC Ondo coordinator
According to him, the plot is to retaliate the attack by youths on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina on Tuesday.
“The PDP is organising thugs to stone our convoy on Saturday. They are recruiting thugs that will be throwing stones at General Buhari, just to give the impression that he is not loved by the people of the state.
“But we shall resist it. We have also petitioned the Commissioner of Police in the state on this. We expect the security agencies to do what they are paid to do,” Oyedele said.
Also, the Coordinator of the BLF, Chief Kolawole James, said the foundation was committed to complementing the efforts of the APC in the state to ensure that Buhari emerged President in next month’s election.
He noted that Buhari remained a credible candidate, dedicated to bringing the desired change to Nigeria and the people of Ondo State. Responding to the allegation, the state chapter of the PDP refuted the allegation, saying the party represented civility and a very decent political party.
Publicity Secretary of the party, Banji Okunomo, said, “The PDP is a very decent party. President Goodluck Jonathan represents civility and conducts his affairs in a peaceful manner.
“We cannot tow the line of the animalistic tendencies of some people as shown in the incident in Katsina. We are peaceful and I can attest to the peace loving nature of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.”
Obasanjo speaks on Buhari’s certificate, he said even Jonathan did not finish his PHD course
The former president has come out to address the issues surrounding General Buhari’s WASSCE results.
This is what the former president had to say:
“The truth of the matter is that Jonathan is aware that Buhari is qualified to contest for President Election but some hawks with Jonathan, do not want him to contest Because they believed that he will win and come for them.
“The issue came up in 2007, and we investigated and found out that his WASSCE is with the military and that was why he was allowed to contest in 2007.
“Buhari cannot listen to anyone about his certificates because as a General of Nigeria Army,he will speak when he chooses, not by Femi Fani Kayode and Okupe asking him.
“Fayose and other corrupt People including Kashamu do not want Buhari because of his anti-corruption slogan. Even Jonathan did not finish his PhD course but when it was presented we stated that, it does not matter but many people do not know because it was PDP thing.
“I see Buhari as the next President and Jonathan is aware of that, and that is the reason they are hitting him everywhere to put confusion in his camp. But a General is always a General….”
