It’s a “World Record”! Doctors Extract 232 Teeth from Mouth of 17-Year-Old Indian Boy

Indian Boy Teeth - BN News - July 2014 - BellaNaija.com 02 (2)
After a 7-hour operation, doctors in India have extracted 232 teeth from a 17-year-old boy Ashik Gavai‘s mouth.
He was brought in with a swelling in his right jaw, the head of Mumbai’s JJ Hospital’s dental department Dr Sunanda Dhiware tells the BBC.
Ashik had been suffering for a year and 6 months, and travelled to the city from his village after local doctors could not identify the cause of the problem.
His father was worried that it was cancer, so he brought him to the city.
The doctors who helped extract the teeth, called his condition “very rare” and a “world “record”.
Dr Dhiware told reporters that it was a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It’s a sort of benign tumour.

“At first, we couldn’t cut it out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out.
Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one. Initially, we were collecting them, they were really like small white pearls. But then we started to get tired. We counted 232 teeth.
According to medical literature available on the condition, it is known to affect the upper jaw and a maximum of 37 teeth have been extracted from the tumour in the past. But in Ashik’s case, the tumour was found deep in the lower jaw and it had hundreds of teeth.” Dr Dhiware said.
The surgery conducted on Monday involved two surgeons and two assistants, and was led by Dr Vandana Thorawade.
Ashik now has 28 teeth

Man Rapes 2 Year Old in Ebonyi, Blames It on “Conji”

Man Arrested for Rape - July 2014 - BN News - BellaNaija.com 01
A 30-year-old man Inya-Okoro from Afikpo North Local Government area of Ebonyi, has been arrested for raping a 2-year-old girl Favour.
The Sun reports that the suspect allegedly committed the act when little Favour returned from school and was asleep by the corridor of her parent’s home. . Inya-Okoro who also lives in the same building reportedly pounced on her and defiled her.
He was arrested by the Police when the girl’s family alerted officers, and he will be charged to court for prosecution.
Favour has since been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The state’s Assistant Superintendent of Police Chris Anyanwu lamented the high rate of rape in the area and urged parents to be careful.
In an interview with Crime Watch, he admitted to the crime and blamed it on his sexual urges
“What happened was that I went to look for job as labourer on the fateful day but could not get any job and I returned home.  As I was washing my cloth, I saw the girl laying down sleeping wearing only pant, I rushed and carried her and have sex with her. It was ‘conji’ that caused it and I don’t have money to go for mature girls.”
The girl’s father told reporters he was in church when the incident happened, and that it was a neighbour who called him to inform him

Adamawa PDP Guber Aspirants Trade Words Over Waiver

Anxiety is looming in Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party as two party chieftains, Buba Marwa and Dr. Umar Ardo, are engaged in a war of words over the issue of waiver in their bid to succeed impeached Governor Murtala Nyako.
Dr. Umar Ardo has earlier flayed Marwas ambition on the platform of the party when the latter indicated interest to join the race for the Dougirei Government House, Yola, calling him a deserter and a prodigal son who fled the party when there was trouble only to come back and indicate interest under its platform after the dust had settled.
Ardo said Marwa can only contest for any elective office on the platform of the party if he spent one year in the party or if he was given waiver, adding that unfortunately for Marwa he does not fulfill any of the two conditions.
But while repudiating Ardos position, Marwa said the issue of waiver had since been taken care of at the partys headquarters due to the fact that the PDP was trying to open its doors to all and sundry with a view to get a credible candidate that will fly its flag in the up -coming election in the state.
Marwa said Ardo was ignorant of the issue of waiver and was just a governorship aspirant, hence he should have find out from the executives of the party before making unfounded statements.
Marwa made these comments in Mubi while addressing delegates drawn from various wards in the five local government areas that constitute the Northern Senatorial District.

BREAKING NEWS: Air Algerie plane carrying 119 passengers missing

An Air Algerie plane with around 120 people on board including French and Spanish nationals went missing Thursday during a flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers, company sources and officials said.
Aviation sources told AFP the aircraft was a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 leased from Spanish company Swiftair carrying passengers of different nationalities.
Its six-member crew were all Spanish, said Spains airline pilots union Sepla, while Swiftair confirmed the aircraft had gone missing less than an hour after takeoff from Ouagadougou.
Many French nationals were thought to be on board the plane, Frances Transport Minister Frederic Cuvillier said in Paris.
He said after a government meeting that top civil aviation officials were holding an emergency meeting and a crisis cell had been set up.
Earlier reports had said the plane was a DC-9.
The plane disappeared at Gao (in Mali), 500 kilometres (300 miles) from the Algerian border. Several nationalities are among the victims, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal was cited as saying by Algerian radio.
The Air Algerie source earlier said contact was lost while the airliner was still in Malian airspace and approaching the border with Algeria.
Despite international military intervention still under way, the situation remains unstable in northern Mali, which was seized by jihadist groups for several months in 2012.
On July 17, the Bamako government and armed groups from northern Mali launched tough talks in Algiers aimed at securing an elusive peace deal, and with parts of the country still mired in conflict.
- Contact lost -
The plane was not far from the Algerian frontier when the crew was asked to make a detour because of poor visibility and to prevent the risk of collision with another aircraft on the Algiers-Bamako route, the airline source said.
Contact was lost after the change of course.
The carrier, in a statement carried by national news agency APS, said it initiated an emergency plan in the search for flight AH5017, which flies the four-hour passenger route four times a week.
One of Algerias worst air disasters occurred in February this year, when a C-130 military aircraft carrying 78 people crashed in poor weather in the mountainous northeast, killing more than 70 people.
The plane was flying from the desert garrison town of Tamanrasset in Algerias deep south to Constantine, 320 kilometres (200 miles) east of Algiers.
Tamanrasset was the site of the countrys worst ever civilian air disaster, in March 2003.
In that accident, all but one of 103 people on board were killed when an Air Algerie passenger plane crashed on takeoff after one of its engines caught fire.
The sole survivor, a young Algerian soldier, was critically injured.
In December 2012, two Algerian military jets on a routine training mission collided in mid-air near Tlemcen in the northwest, killing both pilots.
A month earlier, a twin-turboprop CASA C-295 military transport aircraft, which was carrying a cargo of paper for the printing of banknotes in Algeria, crashed in southern France.
The five soldiers and one central bank representative on board were all killed.

Nyako: APC, Tinubu Lost Focus After Losing Ekiti Presidency

Home/News/Politics/ Jul 21, 2014 | Leave a comment
The Presidency yesterday ascribed the accusations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leader, Bola Tinubu, against President Goodluck Jonathan over the travails of former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, to a loss of focus caused by their defeat in the Ekiti State governorship election last June.
Political adviser to the president, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, who responded to the allegation over Nyakos removal, also said APC will continue to lose elections because its leaders have failed to accept the principle of popular democracy where the electorate have the right to choose who should lead them.
APC leader, Bola Tinubu, had accused President Goodluck Jonathan of orchestrating the impeachment of the former governor of Adamawa State.
However, Alkali noted that it is absurd for any political party that wants to win the presidencial election to denigrate the same office that it wants to occupy.
The political aide said it is pathetic that Tinubu, who contributed immensely to the struggle for a return to democratic governance, has joined the league of those engaged in acts that are likely to truncate the same institution he fought for.
He said It is very strange for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, someone who has led government before, someone who has been in the forefront of advancing democracy for many years, to descend so low as to cast aspersions on the President of this country on issues he cannot defend.
It appears to me that since the Ekiti election, which PDP decisively won, Tinubu and APC leaders have lost their focus. This is democracy, it gives everybody the right to speak; but in doing so, you should not undermine institutions of governance, the same institution you are aspiring to take over and manage.
Recently, the Adamawa State House of Assembly impeached their governor and even as that happened, the APC was up in arms, that it was Mr. President that impeached the governor of Adamawa State.
Why should he do that and how can he do that? Are you saying the 24 or 25 members of the House of Assembly are not in control of their constituencies, that there are no leaders or stakeholders in Adamawa State who worked for or with former Governor Nyako who could have stopped the impeachment.
PDP has lost a lot to opposition political parties. I have said this repeatedly either at the court or more recently through defection, yet PDP stood firm and said let us continue to build on what we have and move forward.
After losing Ekiti, the story has changed. It is time for them to tell one another the home truth. If they are prepared to govern this country, then they must be prepared also to accept the principle of popular democracy that the people of this country would want to choose who should lead them and if they dont, cant or fail to convince people, they must also be ready to admit failure.
He noted that no matter the grandstanding by the APC ahead of the Osun state governorship election, the people of Osun state will triumph, just as he expressed confidence that our candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore is a man of the people.

Atiku blasts PDP: ‘Stop deceiving Nigerians

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government against the dangerous tactics of polarising the country along fault lines as a means of diverting the attention of Nigerians from its inept and apathetic posture to corruption and insecurity.
Reacting to a report in a weekly paper which alleges that a former Russian spy had linked the All Progressives Congress to terrorists and extremists, the former Vice President said in a statement in Abuja on Sunday that these sponsored allegations by the PDP administration would not help the country.
He said no responsible government should seek to create division, suspicion and animosity among its citizens by linking the opposition leaders with terrorist activities or accusing them of harbouring extremists.
According to Atiku, the PDP has officially and publicly, through its National Publicity Secretary, labelled APC the Islamic Brotherhood Party of Nigeria and the Janjaweed Party.
These nomenclatures, he said, were borrowed from abroad and did not, in any way or form, existed in Nigeria.
He said the latest publication about a so-called former Russian spy was a continuation of the PDP campaign of calumny against the opposition party and its leaders in order to divert attention from the epic failures of the ruling party to deliver the goods.
The former Vice President noted with concern the tactics of the PDP administration to drive a wedge between the people by using a religious divide-and-rule strategy to get a re-election in 2015.
Atiku restated that the greatest challenges facing Nigeria were insecurity, joblessness, hopelessness, hunger, unemployment, disease and fear of the future and poverty.
The APC is a party for all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, ethnic or regional identities. Let no one get confused.
The APC is the party to stop the looting of the treasury. We will thoroughly investigate and uncover the alleged missing $50bn stolen from the sale of crude oil.
We are going to stop the government-backed theft of crude oil, which swings between the daily averages of 100,000 to 300,000 barrels a day. The APC is the party to create jobs and end joblessness.
He explained that these problems affect all ordinary Nigerians, regardless of their religion or ethnicity or section of the country they come from.
The former Vice President maintained that the PDP tactics of divide and rule was a reflection of desperation because the citizens were openly clamouring for change.
Dismissing allegations of harbouring extremists by the opposition as utter rubbish and sheer fabrication, the former vice president said the PDP administration should attend to serious national problems crying for attention.

Oyo PDP lawmakers make moves to impeach Ajimobi

July 20th, 2014 | SOURCE:Nigerian Eye

In Oyo State, the fear of the possible impeachment of Governor Abiola Ajimobi heightened last week with a series of secret political moves by members of the state House of Assembly. The development in Oyo is coming just as a source gathered that there was apprehension in Borno State over the rumoured defection of the former Governor of the state, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, to the Peoples Democratic Party.

There are fears the defection might ignite a political crisis in the state. In Oyo, a source told a source in confidence that, at least, 24 House members had been meeting secretly and that more members were being wooed to join the group. He said 10 legislators from the APC had joined the 14 other legislators from the PDP and AP and that they were holding secret meetings on the modalities to impeach either the governor or the speaker, Monsurat Sumonu. The House has 32 members with the All Progressives Congress having 18 members; Peoples Democratic Party nine; while the Accord Party, which had seven, now has five members.

The source said, The House has been calm because the speaker is dancing to the governors tune. Once she is removed, the new Speaker can go ahead to implement the impeachment plan. But the problem is that the group has yet to agree on who will be the next Speaker. For the PDP to have that power, it must improve on its present figure in the house. I am aware that it is being worked on with a move to woo AP legislators and possibly some APC legislators in the house, he said. Signs early in the week that impeachment plans were being hatched were denied by the majority leader of the House, Oyeniyi Akande. Speaking on behalf of the 18 APC members during an emergency press conference, Akande said a report that APC members were part of a meeting held with the PDP and Accord last weekend could not stand the test of time. He said, I am using this period to debunk that statement that APC members were part of that meeting; they were not part of that meeting at all, none of our members was in that meeting.

I am saying it categorically that we are solidly behind our governor, Ajimobi, beyond 2015. We have the positive opinion that he is going to win the second term election. The minority leader in the house, Rafiu Adekunle, however said that some members of the ruling APC were part of the meeting, and that for safety reasons, he would not give their names. For political reasons, no member of APC can boldly come out and affirm my claim publicly. Let me tell you emphatically, immediately after plenary, four other members signified their readiness to associate with the project. On Tuesday, a release signed by all APC members where they denied holding any meeting with a group was issued. This was a confirmation of the sources claim which also backed the fact that there was an impeachment fear in the state. The Chairman of APC in the state, Mr. Akin Oke, told our correspondent that he did not envisage an impeachment move in the state, confirming that the partys members in the house were made to pledge their support to the governor. He said, This era of impeachment is not good for our democracy.

If a governors achievement is not satisfactory after three years in government, why not wait till the next election to remove him through the electorate? Instead of sponsoring legislators to remove governors, the electorate should be allowed to decide that. In Oyo State or anywhere in the South-West, it is not possible to remove our governors. The 18 legislators in Oyo have come out to deny meeting legislators from the PDP and AP. It shows that such a move will not be welcome in Oyo. Ajimobi and the legislators have always enjoyed a good relationship so why should there be fear over his impeachment? asked the chairman. But the PDP chairman in the state, Yinka Taiwo, told our correspondent on Friday that there were six APC lawmakers holding talks with the PDP on how to move to the party. The minority leader who is a PDP member in the house is handling the matter. I am aware that six APC lawmakers in the house are talking with him. They said they were not happy with the APC and are eager to join the PDP. We are considering their proposal, he said. In Borno State, some political observers argued that the defection of Modu-Sheriff, the estranged godfather of the present governor, Kashim Shettima, would make it easy for the ruling PDP to effect the removal of the governor. Already, the former governor has three members of the House of Representatives, AbdulRahman Terab, Peter Biye and Lawan Isa, who are set to move with him to the new party. Though many of the members of the House of Assembly have not come out to associate openly with the former governor, they are suspected to be holding secret talks with him and may move with him to the PDP.

The permission given by the presidency to the former governor to land at the Maiduguri International Airport, which has been closed to all manner of flights for over two weeks, some observers have noted, is a pointer to the extent that the PDP will empower the ex-governor to upturn the political balance in the state. The thinking is that with what happened in Adamawa State where the governor was removed and in Nasarawa, where the governor has been served with notice of impeachment, many believe Borno may be in the radar of the President and the PDP for a similar treatment. But a member of the state House of Assembly, who spoke under anonymity, said Borno lawmakers would not mete out the same treatment to Shettima, saying, He has been nice to us and we see ourselves as part and parcel of this administration. We have never had any major crisis under this dispensation and why now? The lawmaker said the current chairman of the APC in the state, Hon. Bukar Ali Dalori, was a member of the Assembly. So, why should we betray such trust and go with the opposition who can never be trusted. Another respected politician in the state, who did not want his name in print, said, 2015 is still a long way away and if Sheriff brings enough money from Abuja, he could destabilise the system and even move for the governors impeachment. A top aide to Shettima, who would not have his name in print, said, The issue of impeachment doesnt arise in Borno State. The issue will only be a distraction and the governor is focused on delivering on his promises to the people of Borno State. He added, Of course, you know that unlike what obtained in Adamawa, a PDP lawmaker in Borno State defected to APC. The State chairman was from the State Assembly, all of these confirm the level of cohesion between the two arms, and it will be difficult to change this

Parading the men before newsmen, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Andy Dateer, said the men were apprehended at Enyimba petrol station near Ariara International market, Aba as they tried to put the young girl’s corpse in a sack for burial. A quarrel ensued between the men and another man who was to convey them to the point of burial in his car when men of the NSCDC, who were on a routine patrol around the city, saw them. Continue…

“As people started gathering, the owner of the car zoomed off and my men arrested the two suspects. If they had not been saved by my men, the public would have lynched them and the society would not be able to know the mystery behind their act” he said
Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects, Chibuike said he met Jonathan for the first time on that day as he pleaded with him to help him bury the little child. Jonathan on the other hand said a man accosted him to help him bury the child.

Several Feared Dead In Boko Haram Attack On Borno

Boko Haram gunmen killed many people in an attack on the town of Damboa in Borno State, throwing explosives into residential homes and shooting dead civilians who tried to surrender, an official said Friday.
The insurgents attacked the town from 6:30pm (1730 GMT) on Thursday to the early hours of today, said the official in Damboas local government who requested anonymity.
They killed many people. Women and children fled into the bush, he added.
Those who could not flee surrendered and were killed by the insurgents, he added.
The militants attacked a police station and an army camp in Damboa on July 6, chasing the security forces out of the town, which has been one of the hardest-hit areas in Boko Harams five-year extremist uprising.
Damboa residents have been left unguarded since the previous attack, the official and witnesses said.
Resident Ahmed Buba said the assailants stormed as locals were preparing to break the Ramadan fast at sundown.
We were defenceless because all the security personnel, including soldiers and policemen, have withdrawn, he told AFP.
Those who survived the overnight raid fled to the state capital Maiduguri and sought shelter in the palace of the areas top cleric, Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, also known as the Shehu of Borno.
The survivors lodged a complaint with the Shehu because there are no security forces in Damboa, the official said.
The military was not immediately available to comment on the attack in the poor, remote region, which often has limited mobile phone coverage. Nigerian Businesses In Ghana Still Locked Up Despite Police Order

    July 17th, 2014 | SOURCE:TheTrent Online

Retail businesses owned by foreign nationals, mostly Nigerians still remain locked up by Ghanaian traders despite a police order requesting the re-opening of the shops. The closure of the shops, which was perpetrated by Ghanaian traders acting under the umbrella of Ghanaian Union of Trade Associations (GUTA), has resulted in the closure of petty businesses owned by foreigners, with Nigerian traders being the most affected in the current rift. Days after the closure, the police ordered the shops to be re-opened on Monday, July 14, 2014 but GUTA have remained adamant, stating that their claims were legitimate and were backed up by an act in the 2013 constitution.

The closure, which is felt more in Ghanas second largest city, Kumasi, is the latest in a trend of trade tensions between Nigeria and Ghana who have a history of deporting each others nationals.

Sahara Reporters reports: In the latest development of an ongoing melee between Ghanaian traders and foreign shop owners, the traders have refused to reopen shops they locked-up, in spite of a police order to do so. The enraged traders operating under the banner of the unionized Ghana Union Of Trade Associations or GUTA, had last week demonstrated against the governments perceived slackness in dealing with their complaints concerning the implementation of a law which bars foreigners from engaging in petty trading. They then followed up with a forcible lock-up of all such businesses in the city of Kumasi, Ghanas second largest metropolis, and also the capital of the Ashanti region.

Nigerians seem to be the most affected in this whole showdown. A directive from the Ashanti Regional command of the Ghana Police Service ordered members of GUTA to reopen the shops, those belonging mostly to Nigerian retailers, that were locked up on Monday July 14th. But according to witnesses providing up-to-the-minute details, and as at press time, the directive is yet to be complied with. According to the police command, it is an unlawful act to close the shops as it infringes on the rights of the Nigerian traders, but GUTA also presents a counter argument, citing theGhana Investment Promotion Act 865 2013. That act explicitly bars them from establishing businesses in the first place. Meanwhile, Chief Kizito Ike Obiora, the Spokesperson for Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Kumasi, told the press that the shops remain locked and any attempts to engage GUTA for an amicable solution has proved unsuccessful. Yesterday, the commander gave us assurance.

In our presence, he ordered the executive of GUTA to open the shops. At the moment, they havent opened it, so we are still waiting for them Ike Obiora said. Recently, Haruna Iddris, the Minister of Trade and Industry had set up a 13-member committee to check the influx of foreigners into the local retail trade. Ghana and Nigeria have a history of trade tensions, which have in the past resulted in the deportation of each others nationals.

Wickedness: Man killed, buried in a sitting position by native doctor in Anambra

    July 11th, 2014

Posted in wpzoom Y! Daily on July 11, 2014 6:25 am by Sola Filani

A native doctor, Nze Sunday Asika and his accomplice, Uchenna Ibeh, have been paraded by the Department of State Service, DSS, in Awka for killing a vulcanizer John Nwosu and burying him in a shallow grave. Both Asika and Ibeh admitted that they killed the diseased for asking for a refund of money paid for a charm.

Anambra State Director of DSS, Mr. Alex Okeiyi, told newsmen in Awka that the deceased was an intermediary between his brother residing in South Africa and the native doctor, who he (the deceased) approached to prepare a charm that would make it possible for his brothers business to flourish in South Africa. Okeiyi said,Nwosus brother had sent him to the native doctor for a charm to make his business in South Africa flourish, but the charm seemed not to be effective as his brother in South Africa was still having problems with his business.

This forced his brother, John, to demand refund of the N500,000 he said he paid for the charm and this was his mission to the house of the native doctor. There, the native doctor and Ibeh lured him out of the native doctors house at about 8pm and murdered him. Asika shot him with a gun and they buried him in a sitting position in a shallow grave they prepared earlier. Ibeh confessed the native doctor had asked the deceased to stay back for a sacrifice on the fateful night, only for him to shoot him to death and he (Ibeh) buried the victim in an already dug pit and they headed to an unknown destination.

Thereafter, the native doctor ordered the dismantling of the deceaseds motorcycle and used the parts to repair his faulty CG motorcycle with number plate, Enugu QP 782 UWH, and threw the dismantled motorcycle into a stream to obliterate evidence that would show that the deceased visited the native doctor. According to Okeiyi, a homicide team from the Anambra State Police Command led by a pathologist exhumed the remains of the deceased in the shallow grave at Nkpologwu in Aguata Local Government Area.

He said the native doctor has been a terror in his Nkpologwu community, adding that available information indicates that he has been providing spiritual protection to high profile criminals in Anambra and other neighbouring states.

EFCC Arraigns Taraba Accountant General for Alleged N1.56 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, arraigned the Taraba State Accountant–General before the Jalingo Federal High Court, for allegedly defrauding Taraba State Government of N1.56 billion.

The accused, Joel Joseph Lenbang, was arraigned on 8 counts of fraud, including “obtaining by false pretence,” Premium Times reports. Lenbang has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The illegal activities that he allegedly engaged in were said to be first discovered after a concerned indigene of Taraba State accused him of “massive looting” of the state’s funds.

Investigations reportedly revealed a “systematic withdrawal of state funds” masterminded by the accused.

According to reports, “withdrawals were allegedly made under the guise that such monies were used for sundry payments on behalf of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as payment of Bank Commissions on Turn over (COT) and Value Added Tax (VAT) which became a monthly affair.” Lenbang will remain in prison custody until July 11, 2014, when court proceedings for the case will continue.

15 Soldiers Without Enough Weapons Killed by Boko Haram in Take Over Operation – Report

    10.07.2014

At least 15 Nigerian soldiers are said to have been killed by Boko Haram today at noon when they set out to recapture Damboa military base. Sahara Reporters states that 200 men of the military had been sent out on the operation to reclaim the base from Islamist militant insurgents who overran it and took it over a few days ago.

The members of the group allegedly laid in ambush waiting for the arrival of the soldiers to retake the base. The group opened fire on the soldiers as soon as they arrived at the base.

They killed as many as 15, and left several injured. A source revealed that the soldiers are angry that they were sent to such a high-risk operation without enough firepower and troops to take out the Boko Haram insurgents

Man Divorces New Wife After Jealous Ex Sends Him Old Nude Photos Of Her

    July 09th, 2014 | SOURCE:Laila's Blog

A brides crazy ex-boyfriend completely ruined a newlywed couples marriage when he sent the groom provocative photos of the bride, causing the groom to file for divorce immediately. DailyMail reports that the new couple had only been married for a few hours when the groom was given a bouquet of flowers with a memory stick hidden inside.

A note urged the groom to look at the contents of the memory stick, and when he did, he saw his naked wife lying in intimate circumstances. Muslim cleric Sheikh Ghazi Bin Abdul Aziz al-Shammari told Kuwaiti television news that the groom was under strong emotional trauma when the incident occurred. The groom could not bear the scandal and it was truly the shock of his life. Sheikh al-Shammari said the bride’s former lover had days earlier tried to blackmail her into staying with him, threatening to reveal their relationship if she refused.

She told him to get lost, telling him she was to be married and that she wanted to start a new life, become a mother and raise a family. But her scheming ex-partner found out where the marriage was to be held, bought the bouquet and concealed the memory stick with her pictures inside. He then took it to the hotel where the couple were celebrating their wedding and contrived for it to be passed to her husband-to-be.

I Am Qualified To Run For President, PDP Cannot Intimidate Me Gov Oshiomhole

    July 09th, 2014 | SOURCE:TheTrent Online

Despite the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, July 8, 2014,said that his state was not on fire, but for the lawmaker of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are celebrating lawlessness. He equally stated that he has the right as a Nigerian to contest for the presidency if he so desired, adding that all efforts by PDP in the state to intimidate him would continue to fail. Oshiomhole, who was reacting to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, who had accused him of pursuing a vice-presidential ambition in 2015 and thus was setting his state ablaze, said the statement by Metuh was unreasonable. Oshiomhole while speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja, said the PDP could not intimidate him no matter how hard it tried, adding that it was impossible to set the state he presides over on fire.

On the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, Oshiomhole said: You have some people who believe that because they are members of the PDP that they are above the law and they want to celebrate the culture of impunity. But I am a product of a struggle all my life, Im used to people who think that they are much more than what they are. And my own life history tells me that only the man on the side of truth is on the side of God and only that could survive. The issue in Edo is straight forward: Four members of the PDP on their own went to court asking the Federal High Court to ask the speaker not to declare their seats vacant.

Number two, they asked the court to restrain the speaker and the House of Assembly from carrying out any disciplinary action against them. The court granted these two prayers. Now the issue is, I can understand why they were asking that their seats should not be declared vacant because they had changed camps in accordance with the penalty as provided by Section 109 of the constitution. But they also went on to ask the court to restrain the speaker from suspending them based on internal disciplinary issues. The court granted both prayers, but when the motion was argued by both sides, the court ordered that the speaker should still not declare their seats vacant, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

However the court vacated the order restraining the House and the speaker from suspending them for any alleged misconduct on the grounds that the court cannot prevent an arm of government from carrying out internal disciplinary measures. Now having vacated one leg, the House met subsequently and based on their rules, suspended these four members. You know as media men and women that across the 36 state Houses of Assembly and even the National Assembly at one time or the other, members have been suspended for one offence or the other. And in a democracy, if any action is taken against you and you are not satisfied, there is only one civilised way to go, that is to go to court. However these members refused to abide by the suspension order in clear violation of the rules of the House of Assembly. The House of Assembly, determined to be on the right side of the law, decided that rather than physically resolve the matter decided to approach the High Court to ask it to grant an interim injunction restraining the four suspended members from coming into the House of Assembly. He stressed that because the police was aiding and abetting the suspended members, the House asked the court to restrain the police from aiding and abetting them from violating the suspension order.

The governor added that the High Court granted the order, restraining them from going to House of Assembly, and restraining the police from aiding and abetting them. I am sure you have seen on the news that they boastfully said they will not obey the court order. In fact, they described the court order as useless. And when the bailiff went to serve them the contempt paper, they harassed and abused the hell out of the bailiff, which means these guys because they are members of the PDP believe they are above the law, they are above the court and that court orders are not meant to be obeyed. Ironically, the only reason Edo tax payers money is spent to maintain these honourable members of the House is to make laws for the good governance of the state and yet you who live on law making, you are the first to dismiss the order of a High Court even when you were the first to approach the High Court for protection. And as we speak, you are enjoying that protection but the other leg of the court decision that is against you, you choose to disobey it.

He bemoaned the excessive use of power by the police, which he said was compromising the commercial and economic life of Edo State. So if four people refuse to obey a court order that does not mean the state is on fire. You just have few people who are celebrating lawlessness and the police force is helping them to celebrate the lawlessness, he stressed. On his position, he said: Simple! Without the state instrument on the streets of this city of Abuja we confronted the powers that be. We confronted people who occupied this villa from 1999 to 2007, I did it along with my colleagues; across the 36 states we did. So I am not a coward that can be intimidated. One thing is that the general election is coming 2015 and we have defeated PDP consistently since 2009 when I assumed office. Every bye-election they lost.

The last National Assembly election we defeated them in the whole of Edo South, which is about 51 per cent of the population; we defeated them in Edo North which is about 33 per cent of the population; we defeated them in Edo Central which accounts for about 17 per cent of the population. In my own election, despite all that they boasted that they were going to do, I defeated them in all the 18 local government areas including the local government of the PDP godfather. And so what they are trying to do now is that having lost the elections, having been rejected by the Edo people and knowing that another election is coming, they want to destablise the state, intimidate my person. And as you read one Methuselah or Olisa Metuh or by whatever name he is called, he was reported as saying that I am destabilising Edo State because I want to contest for the vice-presidency. Now that is standing logic upside down. If I wanted to contest for the vice-presidency, do I need to destabilise the government that I currently head? So they have let out the cat, meaning that they are afraid for their own rumoured ambition that I want to contest for the vice-presidency. So the point I want to make is that if I decide even to contest for the presidency, PDP cannot intimidate me, I have a right to do so if it is my conviction. It is unfortunate that some people want to put their individual interest above national interest and I cannot be intimidated. Im firmly on ground and there is nothing to worry about.

Is Nigeria Going To Witness What Happened In Iraq? Read This!!!

    July 09th, 2014 | SOURCE:Ladun Liadi's Blog

Culled from PRI where they interviewed Nigerian Journalist and Lawyer Chude Jideonwo It’s just shy of a hundred days since 276 girls in northern Nigeria were abducted by Boko Haram, the Islamic extremist group. And Nigeria has seen more bombings and abductions since the girls vanished. Just yesterday, Nigerian officials announced that another group of girls and women, who were abducted a few weeks ago, actually managed to escape. But journalist and lawyer Chude Jideonwo says it’s difficult to distinguish fact from fiction in Nigeria’s many kidnapping cases.

“Three weeks ago, when these girls were kidnapped in a village called Damboa, the Nigerian security forces denied the reports that more women had been kidnapped,” Jideonwo says. “So it was really strange to see the same forces now say that the women, that hadn’t been kidnapped, had been released. It symbolizes the confusion behind the rescue efforts.” Jideonwo says the fate of the 276 girls kidnapped in mid-April, the ones who gained worldwide attention, is equally unclear. In May, Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said the armed forces knew the exact location of the missing girls. But last week, another military spokesperson admitted Nigerian officials did not know where the girls were. “It’s just a pretty distressing state of affairs,” Jideonwo says.

“It’s almost like they’re kidnapping the girls again.” “It’s one thing to have these girls missing and for us to be confident that every single best effort is being applied to solve this problem,” he says. “And it’s another to have the girls missing and be more convinced every day that those with the duties of finding the girls are as confused as ever.” Daily demonstrations in support of the missing girls are still held in the Nigerian capital Abuja, under what Jideonwo calls “the most relentless, shameful attacks by the Nigerian government.” Nigerian banned demonstrations in support of the girls in early June, but protestors took their case to court and received an injunction against the government that kept the sit-ins going. In response, Jideonwo says, Nigerian authorities withdrew security protection for the protestors and shipped in counter-protestors who attacked those advocating on behalf of the missing girls. But the Nigerian lawyer and journalist also blames his country’s citizens for not maintaining sufficient resolve in the face of the abductions and explosions that now rock the country’s major cities.

Jideonwo says he was appalled at the response to the bombing in June in Abuja, which happened just before the World Cup. “We tweeted for a few minutes and there was outrage, it trended and then we’re back to watching football and tweeting about football,” he says. “We can’t afford as citizens to let this become a way of life.” He also wonders what lies ahead for his country. Jideonwo recalls a conversation he had with an Israeli stranger in an elevator, who said to him, “You see what’s happening in Iraq? It looks like Boko Haram wants to do the same in Nigeria … the Islamists want to run down your country and take over the government.” Jideonwo says his immediate reaction was disbelief. “It can never happen, you know, because it is just a fringe group in the northeast,” he told the Israeli man. The Israeli answered, “Well, that’s how it started in other parts of the world. And if your government isn’t winning the war, isn’t stopping the bombs from spreading to other states, then give me one good reason why what is happening with ISIS in Iraq will not happen with Boko Haram in Nigeria.” Jideonwo says his ultimate response was stark. “Honestly, I take no pleasure in saying this I honestly couldn’t and still can’t think of a legitimate, logical response to such a question,” he says. “Because no matter what the government tries to say in Nigeria, we are not winning this war against terror.” Still, Jideonwo stays he hasn’t given up hope that the girls might be rescued. “For me, they are a symbol of a steady march toward anarchy. I take no pleasure in using bombastic words, but that is the reality of our situation,” he says. “It’s a steady march. They represent for us our failure as citizens because many of us allowed the government to get away with these things. We let them divide us on the basis of religion and ethnicity.” If those girls are rescued and brought back home, he says, “then the bit of faith we have in our country and its future can begin to be restored.

GOOD NEWS: 63 Abducted Borno Women Escape From Boko Haram

July 07th, 2014 | SOURCE:Naij The women were said to have escaped when the sect left the camp for one of their deadly attacks in the town of Damboa on Friday, where more than 50 of them were killed as they clashed with the military. Punch reports that one Adamu Suleiman, a member of the youth vigilante group said, he received an alert from his colleagues in Damboa area that the escaped women and girls made it back home safely late Friday night. “We dont have the details of their escape yet, but we believe God gave them the opportunity at the time the insurgents came in their large numbers to attack Damboa on Friday. How I make money from murdered womans skull Suspected ritualist confesses (GRAPHIC IMAGE)

July 06th, 2014 by Sola Filani

A 41-year-old commercial bus driver, suspected cultist, kidnapper and ritualist, Onwuzuruike Nwakaogwu, has been arrested with a human skull. Owning up to his crime, he revealed the identity of the deceased whose skull was found with him as Victoria, adding that he was involved in a cult group popularly called Dey-Well at Igwuruta village, Ikwerre Local Government area of Rivers State. The suspect claimed his efforts at getting money from the skull yielded little fruit before his arrest revealing that it used to spew out N10, N20, N50 notes whenever he poured kain kain (alcoholic drink) on the skull before reciting incantations.

Nwakaogwu said he went for the head two years after Victoria was killed so that it could yield him money. On how he came about the skull, Nwakaogwu said: I saw it in the bush about two weeks before my arrest. I was in the bush on patrol when I came across the skull by luck. I know the lady to whom the skull belonged. Her name was Victoria and she was a tenant in our village. She was from Imo State. I learnt she went to steal cassava in the farm and she was beaten to death, after which she was roasted. The incident occurred over two years ago. I was not around on that day but learnt about it when I returned to the village.

When I stumbled on the skull two weeks ago, I decided to pick it since nobody was in need of it. I took it to my room and kept it there. Anytime I had alcoholic drink, I poured it on the skull, waiting for it to bring money that I could use. Since I got the skull, I had been able to get N4,000, but not at once. It used to be in N10, N20, N50 notes. I did not know how and from where the money used to come because I would have locked my door. I usually met the money on the floor in the corner of my room where I kept the skull. I surrounded it with bitter kola so as to prevent ants from destroying it. The suspect also confessed further: I belong to Dey-Well cult group which I joined in 1995. I am an ordinary member. I joined the cult group so that I could get help from other members anytime I had problem. We help one another during ceremonies like burial.

That doesnt stop me from going to church as a Christian. The Commissioner of Police in State, Tunde Ogunsakin, confirmed the news saying, Upon investigation, it was discovered that the skull was that of a lady who was murdered by the suspect and his gang. The suspect also admitted to using the skull as a medium to get rich, claiming that the skull talked whenever he performed libation on it, and would give him naira notes in N10, N20 and N50 denomination. He also confessed his membership of a brutal cult group Dey-Well, the police commissioner stated further.

Two Oshiomhole Aides Defect To PDP

Two senior aides to the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole Osama Erediawa and Gaskin Eke on Thursday announced their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Before their defection, Mr. Erediawa was the Executive Director, Office of the Governor, while Mr. Eke was the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party Relations.

Mr. Erediawa told journalists in Benin that he chose the PDP to ensure that the party would win the presidential election in 2015 and the governorship election in the state in 2016.
He said that he was not forced or induced by any individual to join the PDP, adding that he voluntarily resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Oshiomhole-led government.

Mr. Eke said that he resigned because he opposed some actions of the government.
The PDP Chairman in Edo Chief, Dan Orbih, and other leaders of the party, received the defectors and presented them with the partys membership cards.
Mr. Orbih called on the people of the state to cooperate with the party to defend democracy.
Commenting on the sitting of APC legislators at the Government House on Wednesday, Mr. Orbih said it was a calculated attempt to erode the principle of separation of power. He said the legislators had no business sitting in the government house

Jonathans Re-election Campaign Amid Worsening Insecurity Callous, Insensitive, Says APC

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC said the message being conveyed to all Nigerians is that the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan takes priority over anything else, including the security and welfare of citizens.
It said, Were this not to be so, no responsible group will choose this time, when over 200 schoolgirls have been missing for over 80 days and the terror group Boko Haram is daily killing and maiming Nigerians, to launch a misguided re-election campaign for the President.
If their daughters were among the missing school girls, will they be launching a political campaign for re-election rather than pushing for the girls release?

To show their contempt for decency and as if they were intent on inflicting more pain on the parents and guardians of the missing girls, they decided to position their campaign instrument, wheel-mounted electronic billboards, right at the Unity Fountain in Abuja where committed and patriotic
Nigerians have been holding their own daily campaign for the safe return of the girls.
The opposition party said much as it may deny, it is clear that the Jonathan Administration that has surpassed itself in sheer cluelessness in providing purposeful leadership to stop the daily carnage in the country and ensuring the return of the missing girls, has apparently been secretly funding different groups to campaign for it.
It said, First there is the Protectors of Nigerian Posterity, then the Goodluck Initiative for Transformation 2015 and now the GEJites.
With the expensive newspaper, television and Social Media adverts that these nebulous groups are running, it is clear they are being financed from a bottomless war chest, to which taxpayers have been unwilling contributors.
It is sad that a government that apparently cannot adequately fund the war on terror, a government that has lost the initiative to terrorists, a government that cannot provide jobs for its teeming army of unemployed, a government that is running Nigeria aground has suddenly found huge funds to engage in a re-election campaign that is going nowhere, touting tokenism as achievements.
APC said if the administration does not endorse the callousness and insensitivity of the groups, it should waste no time in publicly denouncing them and then call them to order

Boko Haram Can Only Be Defeated If Corruption Ends

    Pembi David-Stephen
    July 4, 2014

An Italian nun, Enza Guccione, has declared that Boko Haram can only be defeated if corruption ends in the country.
According to Enza, Nigerian terror group Boko Harams deadly attacks will only end if corruption is eliminated in the country.
Drawing on her years of experience in the country, the Nigeria-based Italian nun said Boko Haram insurgency is as a result of Nigerias internal instability and politicians lack of effort to promote the countrys development.
I believe Nigerian politics famous for its great corruption does not aim at promoting the countrys development, Sister Enza told IBTimes UK.
Politicians only interest is to get rich by exploiting the countrys oil. There is a continuous fight over oil production.
Alluding to this spate of scandals, Sister Enza said: Boko Haram will stop only when politicians corruption ends.
To defeat terrorism, leaders must build a solid future for the nation by providing education for everybody, creating jobs for the youths, using the countrys natural resources to help Nigerians and guaranteeing the recognition of basic human rights to all the citizens.
If the insurgency is a religious war, Boko Haram would have focused their attacks on the southwest of Nigeria, instead of the north, mainly inhabited by Muslims and which is close to Muslim-majority countries Chad, Niger and Cameroon, she said.
